This is a commentary on the state of making a painting a century after Duchamp and yet exposes a sincere regard for the medium— in particular the materiality of the hung object (seeking a desirable but questionable relationship with it and the viewer). However, ideas are best left to the devices that clearly manifest them, and in the end the exhibition concedes that the space and everything in it is the final work. The paintings are ultimately subservient to the mechanisms of production and display.
